As 2017 comes to a close, it is a good time to review your current salary structure to ensure that your salary structure is competitive and is allowing for proper compensation of your positions.  The first step is to conduct a market study of selected positions (as a representative sample of your employees population), in order to gauge how the marketplace has changed, along with research on 2018 projected merit increases and structure adjustments.  Thereafter, if warranted, the salary structure can be revised or updated, and, lastly, grade assignments of all positions should be evaluated to ensure alignment both from an external perspective and within your internal hierarchy.  Having a current salary structure will help to attract and retain qualified employees, and provide the company with a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
