As compensation professionals, we find ourselves tackling different situations relative to pay, some of which are tasks associated with the normal course of our roles, with others driven by specific situations that arise from time to time.  In the spirit of Independence Day, we are reminded of our roles relative to independence and freedom:

  • Independence to serve as an objective, neutral authority in matters dealing with pay.
  • Independence by providing guidance and recommendations that balance the best interests of the company and its employees, based on empirical compensation data, compensation best practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Freedom to address issues concerning pay equity, FLSA compliance, etc.
  • Freedom to draft policies and procedures that protect and enhance organizational culture for both the employee and the company.
