Many states will see increases to the minimum wage on January 1, 2017, such as Michigan and California. Additionally, some cities will also see increases to the minimum wage. These increases are part of an incremental process to raise wages to align with the current cost of living in urban communities. By the beginning of next year, 29 states and Washington, DC will have minimum wages higher than the federal level. In today’s environment, many companies have multiple locations across many states, so Human Resources needs to keep track of these changes, and make sure that salary adjustments are made, as well as updates to salary range minimums, where necessary.
