Attention Shifting Back to Not-for-Profits

1/10/11
By: Paul Dorf, APD, CRI

Not-for-Profits and Executive Compensation have continually been in the media’s spotlight over the past few years.  The flurry of activity in Washington at year-end and holiday-related news items have temporarily shifted that spotlight.  As a recent article from The Chronicle of Philanthropy[1] clearly indicates, the focus may be shifting back to NFPs, and not necessarily in a positive way.  (http://philanthropy.com/article/The-New-Congress-and/125803/)

We have two thoughts on this issue; first, read the article, and secondly, take steps to ensure that “your house is in order”.  The federal government and the IRS, as well as many states, appear to be on the prowl for issues, as well as possibly new sources of cost cutting and revenue.
